DIY: COPPER ALPHABET LETTER.

The copper spray paint is back from hibernation and as has had its first outing of 2015. Copper was a huge trend for 2014 and with Pantone picking Marsala - a similar, more red based, metallic shade for their colour of the year I do not see the popularity of copper waining anytime soon.

With that in mind I have been trying to incorporate a few more little copper accents around my home. Do you remember back in December when I posted my Christmas wish list and I mentioned that I would like a copper alphabet letter from Oliver Bonus? Yeah, well Santa Claus let me down this year and there was no such thing under my tree come Christmas morning. Despite being throughly spoilt by friends and family and receiving some wonderful christmas gifts I decided to take matters into my own hands on my quest for copper alphabet letters. That was when it dawned on me that sat in my studio/office already was a wooden "&" bookend that I had picked up a few years ago from Wilkinson's and a can of Motolow copper spray paint

To be honest, I feel like a bit of a cheat even calling this a DIY as essentially all you have to do is sand your wooden letter slightly to create a key for the paint to adhere too and then fully cover the letter with spray paint before leaving over night to dry. As you can see not much effort went into making this one at all but it allows me to have the look of copper alphabet letters without spending a single penny as I already had all the materials at home, winner!

I am not going to pretend that a little part of me still would not like the copper wire ones available from Oliver Bonus but until then I am more than happy with my copper "&" bookend and think that it looks a lot more contemporary and on trend than in its previous dark wooden original state therefore I am very much pleased with the final result.
PS. Bets on below for how many times I manage to squeeze copper spray paint into a DIY this year!
