HOT TREND: ADULT COLOURING BOOKS.

Adult colouring books have been slowly creeping into popularity over the past few months and I for one am totally for them. Being an only child and a creative one at that, I spent hours upon hours contently colouring in Mickey Mouse and Friends so why would I not want to go back to that and loose myself in colour and lines for 30 minutes?

In our contemporary adult working world where technology and offices seemingly overrun our daily lives, the idea of adult colouring books becoming so popular may not seem as unbelievable as you might first think. Popularity for these products is so high that I have even started to see colour in your own wallpaper making an appearance.

However much I love a good colouring in session to help me unwind and de-stress I cannot see myself colouring in my living room any time soon. Saying that though I truly believe that there is a colouring book for anyone and everyone out there right now. I personally love the Secret Garden by Johanna Basford as the intricate drawings are beautiful and a real joy to colour in and complete.

Not only does colouring help relieve stress, but the patterns and sense of achievement that comes from completing these works can also help relieve anxiety.  The popularity in colouring in books to help ease anxiety is clear to see with such books such as The Mindfulness Colouring Book by Emma Farrarson being specifically designed as an anti-stress art therapy book.

However if botanicals and mindfulness are not quite your cup of tea but you fancy trying your hand at some colouring in why not try a few of my other favourites, such as Really Relaxing Colouring Book: Gorgeous Geometrics and Colour Me Good Ryan Gosling which is a favourite for obvious reasons but also makes a great gift!

Can you believe that there is even talk of an official Game Of Thrones colouring book? Gonna need that.

  1. I've recently fallen in love with adult colouring books too -- I have the Art Therapy: An Anti-Stress Colouring Book myself!
