You may remember back in January when I shared my latest homewear haul with you all that I mentioned purchasing a record player for the boyfriend this Christmas. Well, a few months have since passed and we have slowly but surely been adding some new records to our collection. We are trying to be quite selective in which records we actually buy, in the age of digital music with streaming sites like Spotify growing bigger and bigger each day I wanted to have a dedicated little collection of music that I truly love and that stands the test of time.
The first vinyl to join our collection is one that I actually brought alongside the record player itself, it is the self titled album from Brighton rock duo Royal Blood. I had this album on pre-order on iTunes long before release date after becoming obsessed with the singles and have had it pretty on repeat for over 6 months now. If you've not heard of Royal Blood before, which is highly unlikely considering they recently beat One Direction for best British Group at the Brit Awards, and you enjoy a spot of heavy guitar and drums in your life you will not be disappointed by this, this is the best album of 2014 in my opinion.
Next up is a Christmas gift from the boyfriends parents and the pair of us where blown away to discover that they had only gone and brought us an original 1977 vinyl of Fleetwood Mac Rumours, what absolute babes they are! Fleetwood Mac to me will always be one of those bands that hold so much nostalgic value, my parents basically brought me up on the stuff and there has never been a time in my life where I haven't loved this band. So much so that I am making a trip to Amsterdam this summer just to see them perform live with band member Christine McVie. Levels of excitement are unreal and this specific album will always bring me great happiness.
Now this next album is another oldie but it is hands down my favourite album of all time, it is the one and only Red Hot Chili Peppers By The Way. To think that this album came out when I was just 12 years old and that I still remember vividly the excitement of handing over my pocket money to the man in Virgin to buy this is kinda hilarious. To be fair, I love near enough every album Red Hot Chili Peppers have released but this album came into my life at a very important time and I genuinely cannot even imagine being a teenager without this album, so many memories and such great music.
Last but by no means least is Florence & The Machine's Ceremonials. I have been wanting to get some Florence on vinyl since we got the record player back in December but it took me a while to settle on which album I wanted on record first. Lungs is such a great album but to me Ceremonials just has more powerful songs, whether that is songs that make you wanna dance or songs that make you want to cry this album has it all.
I am so happy with the start of our record collection and I genuinely look forward to the weekend when we can have them playing over breakfast. There are so many great albums out there that I am sure that this collection will grow in no time but I thought it would be quite interesting to share some of my music taste with you guys! I really would love some cool jazz records so if you know of a few please feel free to drop your suggestions in the comment box below.
Awesome! I bought an older record player last year and have built up a collection up too. I have some really good ones and now collection is up to about 40 records. I would love Rumours in my collection but good copies aren't easy to find. Enjoy the vinyl love!
