DIY: VALENTINES CHOCOLATE BARK HEARTS.

UK-CRAFT-BLOG

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and whether you are in a relationship or not it is always a nice excuse to treat someone special in your life. This year will be the fifth Valentine's Day that I have spent with my boyfriend and after previous years of mini breaks to Amsterdam and expensive meals out this year we have decided to do Valentines on a budget.

With this in mind I decided to rustle up some chocolates as a little symbol of my affection and ditch the over priced chocolates you find in your local supermarket. All in all these little treats cost around £10 to make but once you have  the silicone heart mould that decreases by £3 and of-course you could use a cheaper chocolate or whatever brand is on offer, I used Lindt chocolate just for reference.

YOU WILL NEED:
150g of white chocolate, 100g of milk chocolate,  2 packs of heart sprinkles and a silicone heart mould. I picked up the silicone mould online here and the sprinkles here.

METHOD:
Start by placing a few pinches of sprinkles in each of the hearts. Then melt the white chocolate using the double boiler method (in a bowl over bowling water) until fully melted then spoon an even amount of the melted chocolate into the hearts making sure to cover all the sprinkles. To get as clean a finish as possible try and avoid the edges of the mould otherwise the white will show up when you add the second layer of milk chocolate. Once you have filled all the hearts tap the mould on hard surface to knock out any air bubbles and then place in the fridge to set. Roughly 2 hours later remove the chocolates from the fridge and repeat the double boiler method with the milk chocolate and then fill the moulds again. When doing this leave a tiny gap at the top to ensure clean sharp edges to your chocolates. Again, place in the fridge and leave to set. I would advise leaving them in the fridge overnight if you can but bit if you are on a tight time schedule you can remove the chocolates from the silicone mould after 4 hours.

I really love these little chocolates and the temptation not to hand them over early so we can devour them is high! I also wanted to share a little love and bring attention to the fact that tomorrow will be one whole year since I posted my very first blog post! It is crazy to look back at some of my older (somewhat cringe) first posts and see how far I have come, in both writing and photography. It is nice to finally have a purpose for my camera and a place to share all my creative projects and I am beyond  excited to see what this next year will hold for my little space on the internet.

  1. These are so pretty and simple. I might try these but with the leftover candy canes I have from Christmas.
