Hello again, I am back with yet another DIY for your today! Like I said in one of my previous blog posts I have projects all over the place at the moment but I am glad to say that they are all in the final stages just in time for Christmas Day itself!
YOU WILL NEED:
Battery powered fairy lights, five 30cm pieces of wood, 7 screws, a screwdriver and wood paint.
Alternatively you could leave the wood its original colour for a more rustic look this just wouldn't have worked with my current living room decor.
METHOD:
Making the star itself is pretty easy considering I am by no means a woodwork type of gal. Whether you buy one long piece of wood and get the store to cut it or you go at it yourself with a saw all you have to do is ensure that all five pieces are an equal length. I'm working with 30cm pieces purely as that worked to the length of my battery powered lights but you can change this depending on your own requirements. To make the five pieces of wood become a star you simply need to lay them out in the correct way to create a five pointed star just like you would if you where drawing. Once you are happy with the placement of the wood take your screws and screwdriver (or a drill if you have one) and secure the star in place by screwing two screws into the centre of the star where the wood crosses. Once these two screws are in place you simply need to go round and screw each point of the star together to make a solid structure. Once this is complete simply paint with a wood paint of your choice, for reference I used Rust-Oleum Anthracite. Once fully dry wrap your battery powered fairy lights around your star and the you are left with one light up star!
Despite the fact that I made this star with the sole intention of using it as a Christmas decoration I think I might actually end up leaving this one out on display all year round in the spare bedroom come office as I love the look of it and the fact that I can add light to areas such as high shelving without having to string electric cables all across my white walls pleases me greatly!
